AN AIRTAG COST
ME MY BIKE.
SO I BUILT SCOUT.

Know where your bike is the instant it moves.
Know someone is notified when you go down.
Know every ride — mapped, tracked, analysed.
Cellular GPS, crash detection, full analytics — one hidden device.

Why Bluetooth trackers fall short
📡 Rely on nearby strangers' phones — location only updates when other devices pass by
🔊 Alert the thief they're being tracked — Bluetooth trackers beep and trigger anti-stalking alerts, telling them exactly where to look.

How it works

THEFT TRACKING.
CRASH SAFETY.
RIDE DATA.

Step 01
DETECTS MOVEMENT
Scout's motion sensor knows when your bike moves and whether you're the one riding it.
  • Auto-arms when your phone leaves range
  • Auto-disarms when you return
  • Instant theft mode activation
  • Every ride logged automatically
Step 02
ALERTS & OPTIONAL ALARM
Scout's cellular modem transmits location updates without relying on nearby phones.
  • Push notification when theft detected
  • Frequent location updates via LTE-M
  • 95 dB alarm (optional, configurable)
  • Works anywhere with cell coverage
Step 03
YOU SEE EVERYTHING
Get theft alerts, crash detection, and detailed ride analytics — all through the Scout app.
  • Shareable location link for recovery
  • Crash detection with emergency SMS
  • Full ride analytics (route, speed, lean angle)
  • Location history and trip replay
47%
Increase in vehicle theft across NZ in 2023 — from 41,000 to 60,000 households hit in a single year.
Ministry of Justice Crime and Victims Survey 2024
1 day
How old the GPS ping was sitting in the app while my bike was being driven across Auckland. By the time I got the notification, it was useless.
95 dB
The sound of your bike fighting back. Loud enough to draw attention, configurable to silent for covert tracking — you decide which to use.
Why Scout exists

MY BIKE
WAS STOLEN.
MY AIRTAG
DID NOTHING.

I came back to an empty parking spot. No notification. The last AirTag location was a day old and only updated every couple days. Recovery efforts need current location data.

I went looking for proper trackers — most only update every few minutes, which still isn't fast enough in a real theft. None of them gave me meaningful riding analytics or had any audible deterrent.

I'm a mechatronics engineering student. I built what should exist.

"I kept refreshing the app hoping the location would update. It never did."

AirTag told the thief they were being tracked
By design, AirTags activate anti-stalking protections when separated from their owner. This triggers audible alerts and notifications to nearby iPhones — which means whoever took the bike likely knew about the tracker before I did. The location that came through was already a day old. There was nothing to work with.
AirTag — beeps and alerts nearby iPhones, location hours or days stale
Bluetooth trackers — location only updates when strangers' phones pass by
Scout — own cellular modem, no anti-stalking alerts, frequent updates
What Scout does

THREE LAYERS.
ONE DEVICE.

01
Security
Find It Before It's Gone.
Scout's own LTE-M modem tracks adaptively — conserving power when parked, increasing update frequency when theft is detected. No nearby phones needed. Rapid push alert, shareable location link, and an optional 95dB alarm that can trigger automatically.
02
Safety
If You Go Down.
If you go down on an empty road at night, Scout gives you 60 seconds to say you're okay. If you don't respond, it sends your location to your emergency contacts. Set it up once, run it forever.
Best-effort system — not a substitute for emergency services. Always call 111 (NZ) or 000 (AU) directly if you're able.
03
Analytics
Know Your Ride.
Route, distance, speed, lean angle, and more — logged automatically on every ride. Replay any trip on a map or share your ride with family & friends. This data can't be given by your phone accurately.

Common questions

FAQ

AirTags rely on nearby devices to report location — in quiet areas updates can be infrequent. There's no motion alert, so you discover movement only when checking manually. Anti-stalking protections cause AirTags to emit sounds and trigger notifications on nearby devices when separated from their owner — potentially revealing the tracker's presence. Scout uses its own LTE-M cellular connection for location updates without relying on nearby devices or anti-stalking alerts.
Scout monitors your phone's proximity wirelessly. While your phone is nearby, Scout stays in standby — no alerts. Walk away and it arms automatically. No codes, no app interaction. When you return, it disarms the moment your phone comes back in range.
Scout monitors for crash patterns — the combination of sudden deceleration, angular change, and stillness afterwards. A pothole causes a sharp jolt but the bike continues moving. The algorithm is tuned to distinguish between these events. There's a 60-second window where you can dismiss the alert from your phone before any notification is sent. This is a best-effort detection system and should not replace proper safety gear or emergency services.
Battery life is still being validated in real-world testing — actual numbers will be published before shipping, not estimates. Scout's adaptive tracking helps: it uses minimal power while parked and increases update frequency when theft is detected. For bikes that sit for extended periods, the 12V hardwire option provides continuous power.
Any motorcycle, scooter, or moped with a 12V battery. Scout runs on its own internal battery so there's no wiring required to get started — just mount it and go. For always-on power and the best tracking reliability, it hardwires to your 12V and tucks inside the bodywork. No specialist installation either way — if you can fit a USB charger, you can fit Scout.
Estimated delivery is Q3–Q4 2026 for the first batch. Development is progressing — PCB is done, antenna and firmware are the current focus. No payment is taken until we ship. You can cancel at any point before that, no questions asked. Regular updates will be sent as development milestones are hit as development milestones are reached.
Fair. Scout exists because my own bike was stolen and the AirTag on it was useless. I'm a mechatronics engineering student, I had the skills to build something better, and I was angry enough to actually do it. Custom PCB, hand-written firmware, tested on NZ roads. When you email, you're talking to the person who built it — not a support queue, not a reseller. If it isn't good enough, I don't ship it. My name is on it.
