Scout Moto ("Scout," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you interact with our website and services.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Email Address: When you join our waitlist, we collect your email address
- Survey Responses: Optional survey answers about product preferences (e.g., feature priorities, alarm preferences)
- Contact Information: If you email us directly, we collect your name and email address
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Analytics Data: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized usage data including pages visited, time on site, device type, and approximate location (city/region level)
- Microsoft Clarity & Microsoft Advertising: We partner with Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve and market our products/services. Website usage data is captured using first and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of products/services and online activity. We also use this information for site optimization, fraud/security purposes, and advertising. - Meta Pixel: We use the Meta Pixel to measure ad performance, understand site engagement, and improve our marketing. Meta may use cookies and similar technologies to collect or receive information from our website and use that information for measurement and ad personalization. Learn more in the Meta Privacy Policy
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution
1.3 Future Data Collection (When Product Ships)
Once Scout devices are in use, we may collect:
- Location Data: GPS coordinates from your Scout device when tracking is active
- Device Data: Battery status, cellular signal strength, firmware version
- Ride Analytics: If you use Scout Pro, ride data including routes, speed, lean angle, and distance
2. How We Use Your Information
Current uses (pre-launch, waitlist phase)
- Waitlist Management: Sending product updates, shipping notifications, and launch announcements
- Product Development: Understanding customer preferences to prioritize features
- Customer Support: Responding to inquiries and providing assistance
- Analytics: Improving our website and understanding user behaviour (consent-gated)
- Site Optimization & Advertising: Using aggregated usage insights to optimize our site, prevent fraud/security issues, and measure advertising performance
Future uses (when product ships)
- Service Delivery: Operating Scout's theft tracking, crash detection, and ride analytics features
- Emergency Contact Sharing: If crash detection is triggered and you do not dismiss the alert within 60 seconds, your GPS location and timestamp will be sent to your nominated emergency contacts. Emergency contacts are informed of this when you add them in the app. Location data shared this way is not retained by Scout Moto beyond the immediate notification
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with trusted service providers who assist us:
- MailerLite: Email marketing platform for waitlist management (see MailerLite Privacy Policy)
- Google Analytics: Website analytics (see Google Privacy Policy)
- Microsoft Clarity & Microsoft Advertising: Behavioral analytics, session replay, and advertising measurement (see Microsoft Privacy Statement)
- Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms): Advertising measurement and performance insights (see Meta Privacy Policy)
- Cellular Provider: When devices ship, cellular connectivity for GPS tracking (anonymized device IDs only)
3.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, property, or safety. Where permitted by law, we will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users before disclosing their data in response to legal requests.
3.3 No Sales or Advertising
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention
- Waitlist Data: Retained until product ships or you request deletion
- Location Data: Historical location data retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted (configurable in app when product ships)
- Analytics Data: Retained per our Google Analytics 4 data retention settings (currently configured to 14 months for user properties; event-level data per GA4 defaults). You can review GA4 retention at Google's support page
5. Your Rights & Choices
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your data
- Correction: Update inaccurate information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from emails via the unsubscribe link in any email
- Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format

6. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information:
- HTTPS encryption for all website traffic
- Secure storage with MailerLite (SOC 2 Type II certified)
- Limited access to personal data (only authorized personnel)
- When devices ship: Encrypted cellular transmission for GPS data
However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Scout is not intended for users under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, contact us immediately.
8. International Users
Scout operates from New Zealand. If you are located outside New Zealand, your information may be transferred to and processed in New Zealand or other countries where our service providers operate. By using our services, you consent to this transfer.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We will notify waitlist members of significant changes via email.
